The First Brazilian Symposium on Mathematical and Computational Biology – I SBBMC – was a very successful experience. It was shown that a meeting of several sorts of professionals aimed at discussing their scientific viewpoints on subjects of biological interest, could improve the development of this research field in Brazil. We hope that this opportunity can foment the motivation for profitable work of our young researchers as well as the need of a followable cultural tradition in the creation of graduate and undergraduate courses of mathematical biology.
